Enzian Theater

Food and film: It's an odd combination, but it works, even if there are a few interruptions while watching the movie. Order staples like buttered popcorn, soft pretzels or chocolate-chip cookies, or get fancy with creative salads, sandwiches and pizzas. The al fresco Eden bar is a good place to grab a cocktail before the show.

  • Stop Making Sense

It’s the 30th anniversary of the Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense and we can hardly get our heads around the fact that it’s been so long. In August, a new digital edition of the movie was released. Talking Heads drummer Chris Frantz recently explained to Rolling Stone that, at the time, the band wanted to make a movie that was pretty much the opposite of everything people were seeing on the then-three-year-old MTV: “We didn’t want the clichés. We didn’t want close-ups of people’s fingers while they’re doing a guitar solo. We wanted the camera to linger, so you could get to know the musicians a little bit.” The Jonathan Demme-directed concert doc, often called the best concert movie of all time, was pieced together from three live shows in L.A. and features alternate versions of “Life During Wartime” and “Once in a Lifetime.” The band members paid for the movie themselves, so they were able to call the shots – from choreography to costuming (including David Byrne’s legendary giant suit), the movie reflects everything the band was. It’s still hard to believe that it’s been three decades since it was released, but we’re wildly excited that we get a chance to view it on the big screen twice in a lifetime (get it?). – Erin Sullivan
