We Say...

Perhaps you don’t think of Orlando as a Main Street kind of city – the kind of place where neighborhoods have grown up organically around thriving commercial hubs that act as sort of a town square for the people who live near them. If that’s the case, this art show will not only help you see Orlando in a slightly different light, it’ll also introduce you, via art, to the city’s various Main Street organizations (economic and community development organizations affiliated with the National Main Streets program), which help keep our neighborhood centers vital. Local artist Andrew Spear and Ivanhoe Village Main Street board member Gordon Spears teamed up to pull together this Main Street art show, which invited artists living in the many Main Street-designated areas to submit work that illustrated life in their various ’hoods. The artists – including Morgan Steele, Johannah O’Donnell, Jennifer Payne, Karen Russell and other names you might recognize – have created a collection of works that represent College Park, Downtown South, Church Street, Mills 50, Audubon Park, Semoran Boulevard and Thornton Park. You may think you’ve seen everything there is to see in these neighborhoods, but wait ’til you see them from the artists’ perspective. – Erin Sullivan
