We Say...

If you’ve visited Universal Orlando’s theme parks during one of their annual special events, it might be easy to imagine that the extravagant street-side adornments and super-real re-creations somehow magically appear overnight. Think again. Fact is, Universal employs a team of developers and designers whose main focus year-round hinges on creating the perfect feel and look for the parks’ annual events – from the teeming poinsettia displays and faux icicles during Grinchmas to the French Quarter-inspired street corners of Mardi Gras to the gory makeup and calculated timing of scare-actors at Halloween Horror Nights. With input from Universal’s event team, this History Center exhibit divulges the yearlong backstage happenings at Universal: the ever-evolving creative and development process behind the planning and execution of these special events. It’s one which transpires long before the Mannheim Steamroller music is cued, or the colorful beads are thrown, or the chainsaws roar. – Aimee Vitek
