A cast of more than 25 spirited sports-team celebrity mascots will be dropped into the Amway Center, like Hunger Games tributes, to fight their way through challenges, obstacle courses and dance-offs in order to be crowned the Celebrity Mascot victor. Here’s the quick-and-dirty lowdown on some of this year’s contenders: Sponsors have their eyes set on the pig-nosed charm of Carolina Hurricane’s Stormy; John B’s (of Stetson University) Quick Draw McGraw approach to the arena’s golden cornucopia of challenges puts him among the top-rated in weaponry; the most anticipated career alliance will be between New Jersey Devils’ red-hot N.J. Devil and the dreadlocked, skull-adorned Klaw of the Orlando Predators, who reps our local district. Luckily, fans tuning into this year’s games won’t go hungry, but will instead gorge on an abundant supply of hot dogs and beer – surely a crowd-pleaser.
