As much as Stevie Nicks’ white-witch personality was something for rock fans to focus on, the reality is that if it weren’t for Lindsey Buckingham’s entirely unique approach to pop music, Fleetwood Mac (and maybe even the whole record industry) would have collapsed by 1977. Buckingham is right up there with Prince and Stevie and Brian Wilson, a legit American genius who’s able to channel his singularly weird and twitchy pursuit of pop perfection into music as iconoclastic as it is iconic. His work since the ’80s has had far less of an impact on pop culture than it should, but whether you’re talking about how his creative vision made Fleetwood Mac’s last album (2003’s Say You Will) so surprisingly impressive or if you’re marveling at his idiosyncratic guitar-playing and unique melodic sense on his most recent solo album (Seeds We Sow), the fact remains that Buckingham is a certified American musical treasure who’s managed to make massive hits out of some of the most personal and weird sounds ever. Being able to see him – just him and his guitar, actually – at an intimate performance like this is an opportunity that should not be missed. – Justin Ferguson
